As a boudoir portrait photographer, I’ve heard all of the excuses in the book for why a woman is not quite ready to do a boudoir shoot. In other words, why they’re not quite ready to love themselves, but I’ll explain more about that later. Let me break some of these down for you…
The number one excuse I hear is, “I can’t afford it right now.”What this really means is that you don’t think you are worth the investment. Maybe you’re a mom and you think that this money should be spent on your kids, or to be used towards a family vacation, your bills, etc. It’s common for women to think of everything else first and to put their own needs last. I know because I used to do the same thing. Then I realized, it will never be my turn to do something special for myself unless I decide that I’m worthy of it right now. To me I will spend money on things that are life-changing and that will change my perspective in some way. Traveling, going on retreats/workshops and doing my own boudoir shoot have been some of the most life-altering things I’ve done and you better believe that they were worth every penny and more. If you are on a tight budget though, you can still treat yourself to a boudoir shoot by selecting one of our payment plan options. You can apply for PayPal credit, which you can learn more about here, break down your payments into monthly payments for up to 6 months after your shoot or pre-pay for your collection so by the time your shoot rolls around your shoot will be paid off and you’ll be ready to go!
“I need to lose weight first.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this one and I can tell you that it’s absolutely no reason to not do a shoot. First of all even if you do want to lose weight, with the magic of photography posing and lighting, we can easily achieve a slimmer effect by doing simple things like pushing your butt back away from the camera, stretching out your torso and arms and shooting from different angles to give you the best look possible. More than likely though you don’t even need to lose weight, but instead to change the perception of your body. For tips on how to do this, check out my blog, “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Body”.
“I don’t have any special events coming up right now to give an album as a gift to my boyfriend/husband.” I know you may THINK that your boudoir album will be a gift for your spouse but I can tell you that above all else it will be a gift for yourself. You may not even want to give it to him after you fall in love with it and want to keep it for yourself! I tried telling my husband that my boudoir shoot was going to be his Christmas gift to which he laughed immediately and said that he knew I was doing it for myself. And he was so right…I ended up putting my metal print in my own closet instead of his! Haha.
“I don’t have anywhere that I would hang wall art like that of myself.”Ladies, you will MAKE a spot once you see how damn good you look in your photos…. If you have little kids like I do, a popular spot to hang your canvas or metal print is in your closet behind your clothes or at the top of your closet so you can see it each morning as you get dressed like I did for my metal print. There is nothing like waking up each morning to seeing your beautiful self in full view and being reminded by how sexy and beautiful you are!
You may have more excuses than these, but these are the ones I hear most often and I hope that I helped you to see that these excuses are really there to protect yourself and to keep you from stepping outside of yourself and doing something that is just for you. Most likely for the simple reason that you don’t think you’re worthy of it. There can be a million reasons why you feel unworthy, but I can tell you right now with absolute certainty that are you worthy. You are a divine, beautiful creation of God and you deserve to feel loved and cherished every day for the perfect creation that you are.
